Italian notebook case and mobility accessories designer Tucano touched down in Al Fujairah this month as part of Distree’s Digital Consumer Channel event to find distribution partners looking to add some style to their product portfolio. With a range of Italian-designed carrying cases, Tucano’s sales and marketing director Antonella Bosani is looking to replicate the firm’s European success down south in the Middle East.
“We have been in the market for 22 years and we have a very long experience in this field. Milan-based Tucano is a specialist in production of notebook cases, and we have other products related to mobility such as ipod accessories, mouse, and USB hubs. Our products are top quality and that’s what you should expect from an Italian designer. We are a market leader in Italy and different European countries. We are looking outside of EU and towards the Middle East and North Africa,” explained Bosani.
With the boom in laptop sales and the trend for power retail, Bosani is keen to get in touch with distributors who have a strong reach into local retail channels. “Usually we go for one or more distributors in each area to reach retailers. In Europe we can go direct to retailers, and this is picking up as a number of chains require that we do not go through distributors. In regions such as the Middle East we have to have a good distributor to give us suggestions and indications as we are not familiar with the market. It’s their territory and they will have to advise us on the right strategy to take,” she added.
Bosani’s main targets are the Gulf – the main market for laptops in the region – as well as Iran. However, she cautioned potential distributors that Tucano is not after quick results. Instead, the firm wants to develop a long-term brand awareness for its high-quality range.
“In some countries it is not an issue of numbers but brand awareness. We want to create that brand awareness. We produce bags for all types of notebooks, but we pay special attention to Apple and Sony. They are developing a concept of design and look as well which we aim for. Our products are sold in the majority of Apple centres across the world, and we market many of our designs on Apple’s website. We do also manufacture OEM for partners but we want to try and spread our own brand,” she concluded.
