Islamabad: The Utility Stores Corporation (USC) has increased the number of its outlets by more than threefold during the last three months and 5 to 15 per cent discount is being offered in Ramazan on more than 1,100 items at around 3,400 USC outlets.
USC Managing Director Brigadier (retd) Hafeez Ahmed stated, "The corporation is already selling these items on subsidized rates. There will be no weekly holiday at the USC outlets in the holy month of Ramazan while the working hours have been increased, "he said.
“The USC has also set up a complaint centre with a toll-free number 0800-05590 for the people to lodge complaints against staff and quality of products,” he added. We will conduct an inquiry and will ensure legal action against the responsible staff members," he added.
“The corporation has also dispatched mobile utility stores to the FATA, Northern Areas and other far-flung areas where these stores are not present,” he added. The USC chief said that to cope with the increasing rush at the stores, the corporation had decided to set up stalls in front of the stores.
The USC chief said that on the directives of the president and the prime minister, the corporation had set up more than 2,000 new outlets and 20 new warehouses between July 1 and September 14, this year alone.
He pointed out that the number of USC outlets would grow up to 5,000 by December 31 2007, thus, there would be one Utility Store in every union council and millions of people would benefit from the USC outlets across the country. "We are offering a substantial discount on all essential commodities," Brigadier (retd) Hafeez said.
