Spartan Stores, Inc. today announced that the Company’s Board of Directors has approved executive management promotions and changes to its management structure.
Mr. Dennis Eidson, Executive Vice President Marketing and Merchandising, has been appointed to the newly created position of Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.
In this position, he will lead the marketing, merchandising, and retail operations for Spartan Stores' entire network of 87 retail stores and independent distribution customers.
The new structure integrates oversight responsibility for enterprise-wide marketing and merchandising, and retail operations under a single position. The change provides comprehensive oversight of the Company’s entire retail and distribution operations, provides for more efficient and effective planning and strategy execution, and will help expedite the decision making process on critical retail functions.
Prior to his promotion, Mr. Eidson (age 53) had served as the Company's Executive Vice President Marketing and Merchandising since 2003. Mr. Eidson served as the Divisional President and Chief Executive Officer of A&P's Midwest region from October 2000 to July 2002, as the Executive Vice President Sales and Merchandising of A&P's Midwest region from March 2000 to October 2000, and as the Vice President of Merchandising of A&P's Farmer Jack division from June 1997 to March 2000.
