Rochester, N.Y.-based Paychex announced this week that it has bought Hawthorne Benefit Technologies, a San Diego-based employee benefits company, for an undisclosed amount.
Hawthorne, founded in 1999 by Jerry and Jan Hawthorne, offers an online employee benefits management and administration system under the name BeneTrac. The system allows administrators to access its benefit systems 24-hours a day in real-time, as well as customize reports and conduct open enrollment sessions online.
Hawthorne will operate as a subsidiary of Paychex called Paychex Benefit Technologies. All Hawthorne employees were offered employment with Paychex.
Hawthorne had 50 employees, all of whom have been offered positions with Paychex, which had nearly $2 billion in revenue in its most recent fiscal year. Paychex now has 225 workers in San Diego County.
