Adidas to add 30 new stores in next two years

Johor Baru, Adidas (M) Sdn Bhd plans to open another 30 new stores nationwide within the next two years, raising its number of outlets to 60. Its managing director Darren Choy said the company was always evaluating retail opportunities, but was highly selective in how it did so.

He said all future outlets would be known as Sport Performance Concept (SPC) stores, and would showcase a wide range of products.

"SPC stores offer consumers with a stronger and broader range of athletic footwear and apparel," Choy said at the opening of Adidas' Johor Baru City Square outlet.

Choy said the Johor Baru City Square outlet, with a built-up area of 3,500 sq ft, was the biggest Adidas outlet in the country.

Adidas is also expanding its business in Spartanburg County, and it will mean hundreds of new jobs for the county. Adidas expects to employ about 1,800 people at a new distribution complex by the year 2010.

The 1.9 million square foot complex is to be built near the intersection of Interstate 85 and State Road 129 in the Wellford area.
